123 Ayush Visas Issued Till December, Govt Informs Rajya Sabha
The initiative aims to integrate traditional Indian medicine with modern healthcare for medical tourists.
The Indian government issued 123 regular Ayush Visas, 221 e-Ayush Visas, and 17 e-Ayush Attendant Visas between July 27, 2023, and December 4, 2024. Union Minister of State for Ayush, Prataprao Jadhav, shared these details in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.
Introduced on July 27, 2023, the Ayush Visa category enables foreigners to seek treatment under India's traditional Ayush systems.
These include Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homoeopathy. The initiative aims to integrate traditional Indian medicine with modern healthcare for medical tourists.
The Ayush Visa is divided into four subcategories: Ayush Visa, Ayush Attendant Visa, e-Ayush Visa, and e-Ayush Attendant Visa.
Accredited Care Centres Support Ayush Treatments
Ayush Visas are granted to international visitors seeking therapeutic care and wellness through accredited hospitals and wellness centers.
These facilities must be registered with government authorities or accredited by bodies such as the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers, the National Commission for Homoeopathy, or the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine.
Jadhav highlighted the government's commitment to promoting India's medical value travel sector through the "Advantage Healthcare India" portal. “The portal serves as a one-stop platform for international patients seeking medical or wellness services in India,” he said.
The Advantage Healthcare India portal, accessible at www.healinindia.gov.in, provides comprehensive information to foreign nationals about available healthcare services in India.
Government's Efforts to Boost Medical Value Travel
To further strengthen India's position in medical value travel, the government organized the Ayush Medical Value Travel Summit 2024 on September 30 in Mumbai.
Jadhav reiterated the importance of such initiatives in promoting India as a global destination for medical and wellness tourism. “The Ayush Visa represents a significant step in showcasing India’s traditional medicine systems to the world while strengthening our medical value travel sector,” he said.
With streamlined visa options and a dedicated portal, India aims to simplify the process for international patients seeking treatment under the Ayush system and improve access to holistic wellness services.
