AFMS Plans Drone-Based Delivery of Blood and Medicines in Remote Areas
Vice Admiral Sarin added that AFMS integrates technologies such as telemedicine, Artificial Intelligence (AI), point-of-care devices, and drones to enhance healthcare delivery.
The Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) is exploring drone technology to deliver blood bags, medicines, and essential medical equipment in remote and hilly regions, the Director General of AFMS, Surgeon Vice Admiral Arti Sarin, said on Saturday.
“We are considering using drone technology to supply blood bags, medicines, and other medical equipment. We are hoping for a day when even medical evacuations can be carried out using drones,” said Vice Admiral Sarin at the commissioning ceremony of five medical cadets at the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) in Pune.
She said the technology is being considered for a pilot initiative to address access challenges in tough terrains. “Non-military agencies already use such technology,” she noted.
Vice Admiral Sarin added that AFMS integrates technologies such as telemedicine, Artificial Intelligence (AI), point-of-care devices, and drones to enhance healthcare delivery.
In a release, AFMC stated its emphasis on research, innovation, and collaboration, noting that “this synergy has created an ecosystem conducive to revolutionary medical breakthroughs, making this college a centre of excellence in multi-dimensional medical education.”
AFMC has also incorporated medical simulation as a core part of its training program.
