With JJ Hospital introducing the technology, economically disadvantaged patients will have access to advanced surgical care at no cost.

Grant Medical College and Sir JJ Hospital will soon introduce robotic surgery next month, following the installation of a robotic operating system worth INR 30 Cr. The installation process is underway, and a trained team is set to operate the system.

A team of three doctors and a nurse from the surgery department recently completed training in Delhi to use the robotic system. Hospital dean Dr Pallavi Saple stated that the technology would enable surgeons to perform complex procedures with greater precision using a console.

Dr Ajay Bhandarwar, head of the surgery department, who also underwent training, said patient selection would be done carefully. He added that the hospital plans to conduct prostate surgeries with assistance from experts.

Currently, robotic surgery is limited to private hospitals, where it costs an additional INR 1.5 lakh to INR 2 lakh per procedure. With JJ Hospital introducing the technology, economically disadvantaged patients will have access to advanced surgical care at no cost.
