Kerala Allocates Additional INR 300 Cr for Integrated Health Protection Scheme

The Kerala government has allocated an additional INR 300 Cr to the Karunya Arogya Suraksha Padhathi (KASAP), the state’s integrated health protection scheme, which aims to provide financial coverage to over 64 lakh economically vulnerable individuals.
Finance Minister K N Balagopal announced in a statement on Sunday that with this latest allocation, the total funds earmarked for the scheme in the current financial year have risen to INR 978.54 Cr.
Healthcare Coverage for Vulnerable Families
KASAP offers an annual health cover of INR 5 Lakh to 41.99 lakh poor and vulnerable families, constituting approximately 40% of Kerala’s population.
The scheme ensures free medical treatment for eligible families, reducing the financial burden of healthcare expenses.
The state budget already designates INR 700 Cr for KASAP for the next financial year, reinforcing the government’s commitment to accessible healthcare.
The scheme is currently operational across 197 state-run hospitals, four central hospitals, and 364 private hospitals in Kerala. This extensive network ensures that beneficiaries have widespread access to quality medical care.
