Medical Trust Hospital Launches Robotic Surgery Block in Kerala
The RAS Block is equipped with da Vinci robotic systems to support procedures across oncology, gynecology, urology, and gastroenterology.
Medical Trust Hospital has inaugurated its Robotic-Assisted Surgery (RAS) Block, expanding its surgical capacity with precision-based care.
Kerala Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar launched the new facility in the presence of state ministers and hospital leadership.
With this addition, the multispecialty hospital now houses 1,000 beds and 17 operating rooms. The RAS Block is equipped with da Vinci robotic systems to support procedures across oncology, gynecology, urology, and gastroenterology.
Focus on High-Demand Specialties and Surgical Precision
Addressing the rising complexity of non-communicable diseases, Dr P V Louis, MD, Medical Trust Hospital, said, “Robotic-assisted surgery has the potential to significantly improve patient outcomes, especially as the state faces a growing burden of non-communicable diseases. With smaller incisions, less blood loss, faster recovery times, and enhanced surgical precision, patients benefit from quicker return to normal life and fewer complications.”
The hospital plans to integrate robotic assistance into kidney transplant-related workflows. It also announced future expansions with dedicated oncology and maternal-child care blocks, further strengthening critical care capacity.
Training, Access, and Affordability
The RAS Block will also be a surgical training centre, embedding robotic systems into teaching modules for medical students and surgical trainees. According to hospital officials, multi-specialty robotic surgeries are already operational, with trained surgeons deployed across departments.
Medical Trust Hospital has also stated that it will offer robotic-assisted surgeries at prices significantly lower than those of other tertiary care centres in Kerala. The pricing model aims to increase access to advanced surgical options for a wider patient base.
Dr PV Thomas, Medical and Commercial Director, and Finance Director PP Xavier were present at the launch, along with Minister P Rajeev, MP Hibi Eden, and MLA TJ Vinod.
Established over five decades ago, the hospital continues to scale its infrastructure to meet evolving healthcare demands through technology-enabled interventions.
