Oregon Health Authority Seeks Public Input on Compassus-Providence Hospice Deal
If approved, Compassus would manage Providence’s home health and hospice services in nine cities: Beaverton, Hood River, Salem, Seaside, Silverton/Mt. Angel, Medford, Newberg, Oregon City, and Portland.
The Oregon Health Authority (OHA) is reviewing a proposal from Compassus, a for-profit home health provider, to acquire 50% of Providence Home Health and Hospice operations in Oregon.
If approved, Compassus would manage Providence’s home health and hospice services in nine cities: Beaverton, Hood River, Salem, Seaside, Silverton/Mt. Angel, Medford, Newberg, Oregon City, and Portland.
The OHA’s Health Care Market Oversight program is evaluating the deal to assess its impact on health equity, health care costs, access, and quality of care for Oregonians.
Providence was the largest home health and hospice services provider in Oregon as of 2023, accounting for approximately 25% of home health care episodes and 13% of home hospice episodes in the state.
As part of the regulatory process, OHA seeks public input from patients and caregivers who have received home health or hospice services through Providence. The agency aims to understand community experiences and concerns about the proposed transaction.
