Providing Specialized Medical Service Is Our Priority: CM Sukhu

Himachal Pradesh is intensifying efforts to improve specialized medical services, with a focus on strengthening healthcare infrastructure and introducing advanced medical technologies across the state. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu emphasized the government’s commitment to delivering high-quality, specialized care closer to home, reducing the need for patients to seek treatment outside the state.
“The present state government has prioritized healthcare by launching various initiatives to provide specialized medical services within the state. Significant investments have been made to procure advanced medical equipment for medical colleges, reducing the need for patients to seek treatment outside the state,” said CM Sukhu.
The government’s approach includes equipping medical institutions with cutting-edge technology and fostering an environment where super-specialist doctors and MDs can deliver better patient outcomes.
“Super-specialist doctors and MDs would play a crucial role in strengthening healthcare services, ensuring better patient outcomes and making quality medical care more accessible to the people of Himachal Pradesh,” Sukhu added.
To support this vision, the government has introduced a new policy aimed at encouraging doctors to pursue higher education and specialized training. MBBS doctors opting for postgraduate or specialized courses, whether in India or abroad, will now receive their full salaries during their study leave—a major shift from the previous system, where they received only 40 percent pay.
“Previously, doctors on study leave received only 40 percent of their salary, which was discouraging them from advancing their medical education,” said Sukhu.
The policy is designed to help doctors balance their educational aspirations with their professional responsibilities, ultimately benefiting the state’s healthcare system.
“By ensuring full pay during study leave, the government aims to support doctors in balancing their educational aspirations with their professional responsibilities. This move would enhance the quality of medical training, encourage specialization, and ultimately improve healthcare services across the state,” the Chief Minister explained.
Once these doctors complete their higher studies, they will return to serve in government health institutions, contributing to a more advanced and well-equipped healthcare network in Himachal Pradesh.
This combined focus on technology, specialized care, and medical education highlights the state’s comprehensive approach to improving public health services for its residents.
