Malaysia's IHH Healthcare-backed, India's Fortis Healthcare has announced that its chairman, the resignation of its chairman, Ravi Rajagopal.

Citing reasons, the healthcare company informed that it was due to increased board responsibilities in the UK and other regions.

Following his resignation as chairman and non-executive independent director, Rajagopal will also cease to be a member of the company's corporate social responsibility committee. His departure will be effective Sept. 30.

Rajagopal, who assumed the role of chairman in June 2018 amid the private hospital chain's significant debt and regulatory scrutiny, described his tenure as personally fulfilling, noting the company's journey from facing considerable challenges to achieving sustained performance.

In his resignation letter, Rajagopal conveyed his readiness to relinquish his directorship, effective September 30, according to a stock market filing by Fortis on Tuesday. His leadership saw a comprehensive overhaul of the board's governance processes.

Rajagopal completed his Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Madras in 1975. In 2020, he joined IHH Healthcare and held various positions in different organizations, including being a non-executive director at Airtel Africa.

In June, Fortis Escorts Faridabad unveiled a dedicated spine clinic to offer surgical precision and capacity for complex procedures.

The newly launched clinic is equipped with advanced technology, offering sub-millimeter accuracy in spine surgeries. This aligns with Fortis’ aim to set a new standard in patient care.
