The upcoming Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aims to provide timely medical advice to healthcare professionals and patients throughout the state.

Tripura Health Secretary Kiran Gitte shared details on the initiative and broader healthcare developments. He said, "Between January 1 and April 12, GB Pant Hospital performed around 3,000 surgeries, averaging 40 surgeries daily. Although a backlog of about 250 surgeries remains, the hospital has sufficient skilled doctors and surgeons to handle the volume.”

Gitte further informed that infrastructure improvements are underway. Construction of a Super Specialty building, started last August, continues. Additionally, the Finance Department's proposal for an INR 13 crore has been sanctioned for the CATH Lab after submission by the Medical Superintendent. An INR 56 crore proposal has also been submitted to the Government of India to procure high-end equipment and advanced diagnostic facilities to reduce patient referrals outside the state.

Upgrades and Reforms at GB Pant Hospital

To improve accountability, the Health Secretary announced that mandatory biometric attendance for doctors will be implemented starting in April. "The salary disbursement for doctors will now be linked to their biometric attendance, ensuring punctuality and consistent physical presence at healthcare facilities," Gitte stated.

Efforts are currently underway to recruit more super-specialty doctors from outside Tripura and establish a dedicated Stroke Ward to address cerebrovascular events better.

Dr. Shankar Chakraborty, Medical Superintendent of GB Pant Hospital, shared operational statistics related to the hospital's surgical activities. "In January, the general surgery department performed 147 major surgeries and 569 minor surgeries. This was followed by 264 major surgeries and 421 minor surgeries in February, and 287 major surgeries and 435 minor surgeries in March," he detailed.

A recent review meeting at GB Pant Hospital discussed the volume of surgeries, departmental activities, challenges faced, and strategies being adopted to optimize patient care. The government-run hospital has been steadily expanding its medical services with the support of a team of super-specialty doctors.
